Welcome back to the last Poppins Book Nook virtual book club of 2014! It’s been an amazing year of fun as we explored many fabulous books. Here’s a quick look back at all of the books we explored this year through the Poppins Book Nook:

For this month’s fun theme of To the Kitchen!, we chose to explore a yummy cookbook all about US geography – Eat Your Way Through the USA by Loree Pettit. One of the twins’ favorite subjects is geography, and we have been exploring US geography over the last year. As a homeschooling mom of 3 boys, I learned long ago that anytime you can add food to learning you have a winning combination! That’s why we ALWAYS include fun recipes in each of our World Study Guides.

Eat Your Way Through the USA - World for Learning

Eat Your Way Through the USA by Loree Pettit is an awesome companion to your US state studies! It is organized alphabetically by state, with each state given a 2-page spread. Within each 2-page spread you will find 3 recipes that represent and/or are indigenous to that state, along with some fun food facts.

I’ve created a fun FREE printable to go along with Loree Pettit’s Eat Your Way Through the USA that I’m sharing with you today! As you study a US state, simply have your child write the name of the state at the top, complete the basic state facts, and then select at least one of the yummy recipes to try. At the end of your US state studies, you’ll have a 50-page notebook full of state facts and yummy recipes you’ve tried! I am the proud mama to 3 incredible boys. Our family began our homeschooling journey in 2006 when my oldest was in 2nd grade and the twins were barely 6 months old. I’m passionate about researching resources and activities that allow my children to use all of their senses and learning styles.
