For this month’s Poppins Book Nook Theme of “What Will I Be When I Grow Up?” we decided to explore Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! Dr. Seuss is such an adored author in our home, and his fun messages go way beyond early reader rhyming books. In honor of this beloved book, I created a FREE printable that I’m sharing with you today!

Oh the Places You'll Go - What I Want to Be When I Grow Up

I first read Dr. Seuss’s Oh, The Places You’ll Go! when I received it as a high school graduation gift from a dear cousin. At the time, I had never seen this book and distinctly remember thinking to myself, why in the world is she giving me a children’s book as a graduation gift?? Then I read the fun, inspiring text and immediately understood.

Oh, The Places You’ll Go! is a book that kids of all ages, from young to young-at-heart, will thoroughly enjoy. It’s whimsical pictures and literary style are thoroughly appealing and the message is truly inspiring. It’s starts with typical Dr. Seuss rhyming style with “Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away!”

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

One of the many things I love about this book is it’s honesty. Dr. Seuss does a wonderful job of explaining that you are in charge of the choices you make, that there will be ups and there will be downs, but in the end you will succeed, all in his typical sing-song, rhyming fashion. He embraces the good, the bad and the in-between and through it all simply encourages.

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

I chose this book for this month’s Poppins Book Nook Theme of “What Will I Be When I Grow Up?” as I believe it’s an excellent stepping stone to discussions with kids of all ages about what they want to be when they grow up. It encourages the reader with knowing the sky’s the limit, and that it’s okay if you stumble along the way, so long as you never give up. Additionally, it reminds you that you may go down one path thinking that’s what you want, only to discover along the way that your passion is on a completely different path.

I am the proud mama to 3 incredible boys. Our family began our homeschooling journey in 2006 when my oldest was in 2nd grade and the twins were barely 6 months old. I’m passionate about researching resources and activities that allow my children to use all of their senses and learning styles.
