If your above ground pool is unleveled, there will be excess pressure on the lower side and less on the upper one. You can leave your pool that way and hope things don’t get worse, but they will sooner.
It is even possible that your swimming pool will burst. The best thing to do is to level the pool even when it is already up.
How Level Should Your Pool Be?
As a seasoned installer, I get a lot of questions on how the level should a pool be. But what I can tell you is that these facilities can never be 100% level – it is a tall order to get close to a precise level.
Despite my fancy equipment, high knowledge level, and the will to get above ground pools level, I feel satisfied if the pool is within an eighth of an inch even. And for an oval one, I go for a quarter of an inch.
Things are made worse by the fact that most instruction guides for these pools are poorly written. Most of them tell you to level your facility within an inch.
An above-ground pool that is off by one inch is okay, and it won’t cause any problem, but everyone can notice it’s off level.
Can You Level an Already Up Pool?
Another question that I often get is how to level an above ground pool with water in it. In most cases, I recommend pool owners to take their pools down, level them, and then set them up.
Sadly, if you do that, you would need to buy a new liner as you cannot reuse the existing one. Yes, so people can reuse them, but that is not advisable.
Therefore, if your already up pool is off by just a few inches, you can easily level it without taking it down. However, I must tell you that that is not an easy task – some professional pool installers even don’t know how to do it.
But for me, I usually follow these steps:
- Drain the above ground pool half-way.
- Remove the leveling blocks under the lower side.
- Pry up the wall on the bottom using a shovel to the desired level.
- Reinstall the blocks.
- Repeat for all sides of the pool.
- Add and compact earth under the wall has been jacked up.
- Refill the swimming pool.
It is that easy to level unleveled above ground swimming pool. And it is advisable to seek the services of a professional when leveling things up.
